£10,489 awarded to Marybank Primary School Parent Council

Marybank Primary is a small rural school where staff, pupils, and parents are passionate about encouraging sustainable living and outdoor learning. With the support of a £10,489 grant from the Fairburn Community Fund, the school has transformed its outdoor space to help bring these values to life.

The growing project has become a vibrant part of school life, involving pupils from across all year groups in the weekly gardening club, which is run by dedicated volunteers. Through hands-on experience, children are learning where food comes from, how it’s grown, and the value of healthy eating.

The initiative not only supports the curriculum but also strengthens community ties by encouraging children to share produce with their families.

“The children are having an amazing time at the weekly gardening club with the new Polycrub and planters. They have already grown some beautiful flowers and some fruit and veg to eat.”— parent and local resident
