Glendoe

Through our Glendoe hydroelectric station, we make around £130,000 per year available for community and charitable projects. Between 2006 and 2031, we expect to invest £3.5million in local projects.

Project eligibility

The community fund can support projects which:

  • Are social enterprises run on a not-for-profit basis that provide community benefits

  • Support apprenticeships or skills and jobs development.

  • Foster vibrant, sustainable communities

Projects in the following community council areas can apply:

  • Fort Augustus and Glenmoriston
  • Stratherrick and Foyers

You don’t need to be a registered charity to apply, but your organisation must have a constitution (governing document or set of rules) and not be set up for individual profit. If you are unsure if your group is eligible, please contact us for advice.

How to apply

The Glendoe community fund is administered by two local community organisations. For more information about the funds, and how to apply, please contact the relevant group by clicking on the links below:

Affordable Community Housing at Dodd Park, Inverfarigaig

To help address the growing need for affordable rental housing in the area, the Stratherrick and Foyers Community Trust, in partnership with the Communities Housing Trust, secured funding from the Rural and Island Housing Fund to develop two three-bedroom detached homes for rent at Dodd Park, Inverfarigaig, during 2024–2025.

An advance drawdown of £270,635 from the Glendoe Fund enabled the construction of the two rental properties, which remain in community ownership. These homes are part of a six-property development known as Dodds Place. Of the six homes, four were sold by the Communities Housing Trust, while the remaining two, owned by the community, are available for long-term rental.

The rental homes are allocated to individuals and families with a strong local connection, ensuring that the development supports the sustainability and vitality of the local community. This marks the Trust’s first housing project, and since April 2025, the properties have been successfully occupied, providing affordable, energy-efficient homes for residents.

This initiative showcases the effectiveness of community-led development and strategic partnerships in addressing rural housing challenges.
