Stronelairg

Through the Stronelairg Community Fund we make around £569,250 per year available to local communities. Between 2017 and 2042 we expect to invest £28 million in and community and charitable projects both locally and across the Highland region.

Additional funding is committed to the regional Sustainable Development Fund through the Stronelairg wind farm. This fund opens every two years and supports transformational projects across the Highland local authority area.

Funding Case Study

1

£65,000 awarded to Badenoch Broadband & Communications CiC

This funding has enabled an upgrade to the hardware installed in local properties and enhancement of 6 hill-top masts in Laggan so that local connectivity can be enhanced from 32Mpbs to up to 300Mpbs. Connectivity is crucial for modern life, enabling efficient communication, remote work, online education, and supporting economic growth, social interaction, and access to essential services. A key issue for growing local business and retaining residents in the rural Stronelairg communities is the lack of reliable broadband facilities. The Laggan community action plan identified lack of connectivity as their key local priority. The project was led by a local company who has successfully implemented similar projects in neighbouring areas and understands the specific challenges of the mountains and hills in Laggan. The project will enhance the connectivity of 170 local homes and businesses and will enhance the quality of life and communication needs of 345 residents. A key focus for the impact of the provision will be enhancing the tourism sector which relies on promotion and booking via internet enabled sites
