SSE invites further input on Tangy Repower proposals

SSE is inviting local communities in South Kintyre to take part in a second round of public consultation events on its proposals for the Tangy Repower Wind Farm.

The upcoming events follow public consultations held at the end of August last year, where SSE gathered local feedback on proposed designs for the consented repowering project. That feedback has helped inform the next stage of development work, and the project team is now keen to engage further with local residents as proposals continue to progress.

Opened in 2003, Tangy Wind Farm is located around six miles northwest of Campbeltown. Its 22 turbines currently provide 18.7MW of installed renewable energy capacity but are approaching the end of their operational life.

In 2019, SSE Renewables was granted consent by Scottish Government Ministers to repower the existing site with a new 16 turbine wind farm with a maximum tip height of up to 150 meters, as well as new associated energy infrastructure.

Now, under the redesigned proposals being consulted on, installed generating capacity at Tangy Repower Wind Farm could increase to up to 96MW. This would be achieved primarily through changes to turbine tip heights, with the consented 16 turbines increasing to a maximum tip height of up to 200 metres.

Members of the Tangy Repower project team will be available at each event to discuss the proposals, share information, and answer questions from local residents.
