Our principles for co-existence with commercial fisheries
Developing and building offshore wind energy at scale and pace is essential for meeting our global net zero targets. As responsible developers, we appreciate there are other marine users, including commercial fisheries, who may be affected by our activities. Understanding that the transition to net zero must be fair and just for the people and businesses impacted, we are working proactively and collaboratively with our neighbours in the marine environment to understand their needs and concerns. Our ambition is to minimise negative impacts and maximise shared benefits. Our 'Principles for Co-Existence' document outlines our vision for how we can achieve this when working with commercial fisheries across all jurisdictions we operate within by working together openly, transparently and constructively. | ![]() |
Fingal McKiernan, SSE Renewables Commercial Fisheries Manager, talks about our principles for co-existence with commercial fisheries in this short film:
Fisheries Safety Flyer
SSE has published a Fisheries Safety Flyer - the first resource of its kind from a renewable energy developer - designed to support safe navigation within our operational offshore wind farms.
With fishing continuing actively across SSE’s operational offshore wind sites, the flyer provides clear, practical information on navigation, wind farm infrastructure, incident reporting and communication procedures, and safe operating considerations to help promote safer co-existence at sea.
Flyers relevant to our operational offshore wind farms can be found via the links below.
