Coomatallin Wind Farm is located near Dunmanway in West Cork. The four turbine, six MW wind farm entered commercial operation in 2006. Coomatallin Wind Farm generates enough renewable energy to power over 4,000 Irish homes annually while displacing another 4,000 tonnes of harmful carbon dioxide emissions each year*.

The Coomatallin Community Fund launched in 2006. When the contribution from the 2025 fund is distributed, it will have contributed nearly €290,000 to community groups within 20km of the wind farm.

Proposed Extension of Operational Life - September 2025

We are now seeking to extend the operational lifetime of the wind farm by a further 20 years up to 2046 to continue both the provision of renewable energy and Coomatallin’s contribution to meeting Ireland’s renewable energy targets.

An extension of life will also ensure the continuation of community funding, and that Cork County Council continues to receive rates payments linked to the wind farm which will contribute towards services such as roads, local infrastructure and public services.

We have submitted a planning application to Cork County Council to extend the wind farm's operational life. Further details on this planning application can be found on the Cork County Council Planning Portal, application reference number 25/6057
