Funding case study
Lowther and District Men’s Shed complete incredible renovation
£88,205 awarded to Lowther & District Mens’ Shed from the Clyde South Lanarkshire Community Fund
The grant award was part of a funding partnership with South Lanarkshire Council Renewable Energy Funds that totalled £167,114, which has enabled the group to achieve their aim to have their own permanent premises: the re-purposed Lowther Hills Ski Hut.
This ambitious and complex project required engaging a professional architectural consultancy and building contractors. Following detailed design and planning, the unused Lowther Hills Ski Hut was dismantled and moved 5 miles and rebuilt at its new site in the heart of Leadhills village.
The Shed aims to reduce isolation and develop the capacity of individuals, and contribute to physical and mental wellbeing. Although designed to support older men, the Shed will be inclusive of the wider community and has already been engaging with the local gardening group.
“Our members worked very hard carrying out work inside and outside the building to get the finish we have today. I know they look at the shed with pride, and the buildings fit well into the area with good access. The amenity will have a great benefit to the Lowther and District area for years to come.” Nigel C Davies, Secretary
