In June 2026, the 64MW Jubera Wind Farm in La Rioja became SSE's first operational onshore wind farm in Spain. Located in the municipality of Santa Engracia del Jubera, the project marked an important milestone in the growth of our renewable energy business in one of our key international markets.
Project pipeline
We're also progressing the 23MW Portalrubio Wind Farm and the adjoining 19MW Minguez Wind Farm in the Aragón region of northern Spain. The Delta4000 turbines for both projects will be manufactured at Nordex's factory in Barásoain, supporting local supply chain content and investment.
These projects form part of a secured Spanish pipeline of more than 225MW of onshore wind and solar photovoltaic (PV) projects. Alongside this secured pipeline, we're pursuing a broader portfolio of future development opportunities across La Rioja, Castilla y León, Aragón, Cataluña, Andalucía, Castilla la Mancha and Extremadura. Subject to future project development and future investment decisions, these opportunities could support our ambition to grow our onshore capacity in Spain towards up to 1GW over time. Together, they have the potential to deliver more clean, homegrown electricity and support Spain's transition to a cheaper, cleaner and more secure energy system.

Based across our offices in Madrid, Bilbao, Santiago and Zaragoza, our team of more than 15 renewable energy professionals is advancing SSE's renewable energy ambitions in Spain. Led by Javier Asensio, General Manager for Spain, the team is responsible for the development, construction and operation of renewable energy and storage projects across the country.
By combining local expertise with SSE's experience in renewable energy development, construction and operations, we're helping increase the supply of clean, homegrown electricity while supporting economic growth and local supply chains across Spain.

Javier Asensio is General Manager for Spain at SSE, leading the company's renewable energy business and teams across Madrid, Bilbao, Santiago and Zaragoza.
With more than 25 years' experience across the wind and solar sectors, he has held senior leadership roles in renewable energy companies and investment funds, overseeing the development, construction and operation of projects in more than 15 countries across Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America.
At SSE, Javier is responsible for advancing the company's growth ambitions in Spain and helping deliver more clean, homegrown electricity to support the country's energy transition.
