Applications now open for local community projects
Funding available for projects within 12 miles of Tievenameenta Wind Farm
Deadline for applications is 18 November 2026
SSE has opened applications to the Tievenameenta Community Benefit Fund, making £90,000 available this year to support community groups, schools, clubs and organisations delivering projects that create lasting benefits across the local area.
The annual fund, supported by SSE’s Tievenameenta Wind Farm, is open to projects located within 12 miles of the wind farm which is located near Killeter in County Tyrone. The community fund will provide funding for initiatives focused on community development, energy efficiency, sustainability, climate action and safety.
Applications are now open and will close on 18 November 2026.
One organisation which has benefited from the fund previously is Dergview Football Club, which received £14,000 to install a solar PV and battery storage system at its ground.
The funding has supported the club to install 34 high-efficiency solar panels with battery storage technology to generate renewable electricity on site. This new system is helping reduce energy costs, lower carbon emissions and direct more resources towards community and sporting activities.
David Loughlin, Dergview Football Club, said:
"The support from the Tievenameenta Community Benefit Fund has enabled us to progress an important project that will deliver long-term benefits for the club and wider community. The solar and battery installation will help reduce operating costs, improve energy resilience and support our efforts to become more sustainable for years to come."
Padraig Fitzgerald, Community Investment Manager at SSE, said:
“Local groups know best what their communities need, and this fund is designed to help turn those ideas into projects that deliver lasting benefits. From improving local facilities to supporting sustainability initiatives, we're proud to provide funding that helps communities invest in their future.
“We would encourage eligible organisations to explore the opportunities available and submit an application. We look forward to supporting another range of projects that will make a positive difference across communities surrounding Tievenameenta Wind Farm.”
The Tievenameenta Community Benefit Fund forms part of SSE's commitment to sharing the value of renewable energy development with the communities closest to its operations.
