Crumhach Wind Farm

SSE has submitted a planning application for a new 102MW wind energy project at the site of the existing Kingsmountain and Dunneill wind farms in West Sligo, the proposed Crumhach Wind Farm. The project will also include additional development on adjacent greenfield lands.
SSE has operated Kingsmountain Wind Farm since 2003 and Dunneill Wind Farm since 2010. Together, both wind farms constitute over 36MW of clean energy, power Irish homes and businesses and removing harmful carbon dioxide emissions from Ireland’s electricity fuel mix in addition to providing a significant economic boost locally.
Through the proposed Crumhach Wind Farm we are now seeking to secure and extend our over two-decade long presence in County Sligo.
Community Consultation & Planning Application
SSE ran a community consultation for the proposed Crumhach Wind Farm for six weeks, from July 23 to September 3, 2025. This built on public engagement for the project which has been ongoing since April 2024. During this time, we heard the views of the local community regarding the project. This community consultation also included in-person information days which took place in Dromore West Community Centre and the Old Schoolhouse, Templeboy on the 23 and 24 July, 2025 respectively.
Now, SSE has submitted a planning application to An Coimisiún Pleanála for Crumhach Wind Farm. Members of the public can view and download the planning application and supporting documents including the Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR) and Natura Impact Statement (NIS) at a dedicated website, www.crumhachwfplanning.com.
Copies of the application and all supporting documents can also be viewed or purchased on payment of a specified fee (which shall not exceed the reasonable cost of making such a copy) during public opening hours for a period of seven weeks commencing on 14 August 2026 at the following locations:
The Offices of An Coimisiún Pleanála, 64 Marlborough Street, Dublin 1, D01 V902 (9:15am-5:30pm, Monday-Friday)
The Offices of Sligo County Council, City Hall, Quay Street, Sligo, F91 PP44 (10:00am-4:00pm, Monday-Friday).
Submissions or observations may be made only to An Coimisiún Pleanála, 64 Marlborough Street, Dublin 1 in writing or online at www.pleanala.ie during the above-mentioned seven-week period commencing on 14 August 2026.

Community Benefit Fund
Crumhach Wind Farm development would also extend SSE’s well-established commitment to community benefit in Sligo. Since 2004, SSE has contributed over €650,000 to local groups from the existing Kingsmountain and Dunneill Community Benefit Fund.
If consented and delivered, the project would establish a new community benefit fund during the wind farm’s first year of commercial operation. Based on Crumhach’s projected output, the fund would be expected to deliver multimillion-euro community benefits over the lifetime of the wind farm, representing a significant increase in funding for local communities from SSE’s existing wind farms in West Sligo. Crumhach would also be a significant contributor to commercial rates, helping further improve local infrastructure and services in County Sligo more widely.
